Department of Histology and Embryology

The Department of Histology and Embryology which started to teach in 2010-2011 Academic Year within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Near East University. The Department has been established with the with the support of Prof. Dr. Levent ERGÜN (Head of Department), Prof. Dr. Ziya ÖZCAN, Professor Dr. Reşat Nuri AŞTI, Prof. Dr. Belma ALABAY, Prof. Dr. Nevin KURTDEDE, Prof. Dr. Hikmet ALTUNAY, Prof. Dr. Asuman ÖZEN, Assoc. Prof. Alev Gürol BAYRAKTAROĞLU and Research Assistants whose staff of the Department of Histology and Embryology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ankara University.

Prof. Dr. Nurhayat GÜLMEZ, retired from the Department of Histology and Embryology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kafkas University, has been started working full-time on 15.09.2014 and she is Head of Department. At the present time, courses are conducted by Prof. Dr. Nurhayat GÜLMEZ and Research Assistant Hüseyin ŞAH.

Histology, also called tissue science, is a science that examines the composition and structure of human, animal and plant tissues in connection with their specialized functions. The main purpose of tissue science is to determine the order of tissues in all structural stages from cell and intercellular substances to organs. It can also be defined as microscopic anatomy.

As for Embryology, it is the branch of science which  deals with the life and development of human and mammalian animals before birth and the incubation period of birds.

As part of its undergraduate program, the Department of Histology and Embryology facilitates the following theoretical and practical modules: Histology I, Histology II and Embryology.
