One Health and Food Ethics: Prof Dilek Arsoy’s Integrated Approach

Prof. Dr. Dilek Arsoy stated that the “One Health” principle, which emphasizes the close interconnectedness of human, animal, plant, and environmental health, is the foundation of healthy societies. This principle recognizes the integration and sharing of animal and human health information as the key to efficient health systems. Prof Arsoy said that this approach is also closely related to Food Ethics. Food Ethics emphasizes that nutrients should not only be healthy and nutritious, but should also be derived from safe and reliable sources, free from inequitable practices, and in compliance with animal and plant welfare.

Prof. Arsoy presented these important issues on behalf of Near East University, the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture at the 4th International Congress on Agriculture and Food Ethics (16-17 November 2023), organized by TARGED, the Association of Agriculture and Food Ethics and Ankara University Faculty of Agriculture, in the historic conference hall of Ankara University Faculty of Agriculture. The presentation discussed in detail the importance of the holistic approach of One Health and Food Ethics and its impact on practices. Prof Arsoy’s paper was well received by the congress participants and stimulated discussions. The full text of the paper is included in the congress book and is a valuable resource for experts and researchers working in this field.
