The Department of Zootechnics which began lecturing activity in the academic year of 2012-2013 was established with the contributions of the Department of Zootechnics, Faculty of Veterinary of the Ankara University. It has been continuing her education with her own staff since 2013-2014.

Zootechnics is a kind of science which is transferring all the developments in the field of breeding into practice. In this sense, the Department of Zootechnics is aiming to increase the productivity on alternative production systems including ecologic (sustainable, organic) production. It also study the animal care and management of pets such as cats and dogs as well as the farm animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, horses, pigs. Besides these animals, poultry animals mainly broilers and laying hens as well as quail, partridge, pheasant, Beijing duck and ostrich are also being examined at the department. One of the other aims of the Department of Zootechnics to make research on education for the updated future planning about basic genetic and biometrics, to improve the development of environmentally friendly production technologies, to increase the production of the animal welfare standards and product quality, to lower extinction of the animals. It also tries to apply the process of using traditional or/and modern biotechnological breeding methods in order to increase the production of agriculture economics to create enhance resistance, highly adopted genotypes so as to provide a healthy products from the production stage to kitchen.

At the Department of Zootechnics, the undergraduate courses such as Zootechnics 1, Zootechnics 2, Animal Welfare, Dog and Cat Breeding, Animal Breeding, Exotic Pets Breeding and Laboratory Animal Breeding are given in a theoretical and practical way.
