The Department of Biochemistry started its departmental studies as part of the Faculty of Veterinary of Near East University in the academic year 2011-2012 with the support of Department of Physiology of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Ankara University, and with the Department of Biochemistry of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Uludağ University in academic year of 2013-2014 and 2014-2015, and with the Department of Biochemistry of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Erciyes University in academic year of 2015-2016 academic year fall term. Assoc. Dr. Prof. Dr. Serkan SAYINER started to work as a full time academic staff in October 2014. and has started teaching activities since Spring term of 2015-2016 Academic Year. He is currently teaching at the Departmenf of Biochemistry. Besides, he is head of department. There are two research assistants at the department who are Deniz CEYLANLI and Sevgi GENÇOSMAN continuing their activities.

Biochemistry is the branch of science concerned with the chemical and physiochemical processes that occur within living organisms, humans, plants and animals. Biochemistry provides detailed information on proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, etc. which are all constituents of living organisms and also information on nucleic acids, enzymes minerals, vitamins and hormonesthat have vital significance to the structure of living organisms.

As part of its undergraduate program, the Department of Biochemistry facilitates the following theoretical and practical modules: Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry I, Biochemistry II, Physiopathology, Metabolic Functions between Organs and Tissues.
