Assoc. Prof. Dr. Isfendiyar Darbaz from Near East University elected as the Cyprus representative of the European Pet Breeding Association, ESDAR

At the 25th European Pet Breeding Association Conference held in Greece this year, Near East University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Deputy Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Isfendiyar Darbaz was elected as the Cyprus representative of the association.

One of the most prestigious conferences in the field of Veterinary Medicine, the 25th of the ESDAR – European Association of Pet Reproduction Conference was held in Thessaloniki, Greece this year. Near East University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Head Prof. Dr. Selim Aslan and Near East University Veterinary Faculty Deputy Dean and Obstetrics and Gynecology Department Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsfendiyar Darbaz represented the TRNC with their presentations. At the meeting of the country representatives, which was decided to be held in France next year by the ESDAR board, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Isfendiyar Darbaz was elected as the “Cyprus Country Representative” of the association. Also, it was decided that Prof. Dr. Selim Aslan should continue his duty as “Audit Committeeee” (Budget Commission member) for ESDAR for the same period of time.

The conference, which is held every year and brings together scientists from all over the world, follows the latest developments in the reproductive biology of pets, and aims to keep up-to-date information on traditional veterinary practices, physiology, pathology and biotechnology. This year, the conference covered many topics such as biotechnology in domestic animals, ovum retrieval and spermatogenesis, birth process, miscarriage control, genetics, neonatal care, udder health and problems, new operating techniques, reproduction and diseases in domestic and exotic animals, and behavioral problems related to reproduction.

Two important presentations from Near East University
This year, at the conference hosted by Thessaloniki Aristotle University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, many academics from various countries of the world such as Germany, Austria, South Africa, Norway, Slovakia, France, Sweden, Italy, Ukraine, Poland, Ireland, Switzerland, Hungary, Belgium, Estonia, Slovenia, Macedonia, England, Spain, Serbia, Finland, Netherlands, Greece, Bulgaria, Portugal, Cyprus and Turkey came together.

At the conference, which was held with great interest and participation, Prof. Dr. Selim Aslan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Isfendiyar Darbaz made two important presentations on the importance of detecting and evaluating common blood parasites before surgery in obstetrics and gynecology cases requiring surgery in pets and the importance of somatic cell count in milk.

Elected as the “Cyprus Country Representative” at ESDAR, one of the world’s most prestigious conferences in the field of Veterinary Medicine, Near East University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Vice Dean and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Darbaz emphasized that the conference organized by the European Pet Breeding Association is one of the most important scientific events in the field and further said, “For the first time in 25 years, a scientist from Northern Cyprus was elected as the Cyprus Country Representative at the ESDAR Conference.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Darbaz made the assessment that “My election as the country representative by the ESDAR Board is an important result of this event”.
