Prof. Dr. Deniz SEYREK İNTAŞ

Deniz Seyrek-Intas was born on September 8th, 1961 in Hagen/Germany. Between 1968 and 1972 she went to Ahmet Vefik Pasa Primary School in Ankara/Turkey. 1972 she returned to Germany and went to Realschule in Letmathe (Westf.) between 1972 and 1974, and to Maria-Waechtler Gymnasium (Highschool) between 1974 and 1978 in Essen. She passed through high school in 1979 in Bursa at High School Bursa Kız Lisesi. She studied Veterinary Medicine between 1980 and 1985 at Bursa Uludag University (BUU) and graduated as third best. After graduation she started to work as a research assistant in the Surgery Department at the same Faculty. 1987 she went to the Horse Surgery Clinic of the Veterinary Faculty of Justus-Liebig University (JLU) in Giessen / Germany as the first YÖK scholarship student of BUU in order to do a doctoral thesis. Between 1987 and 1993 she performed her doctoral thesis under the supervision of Prof. Dr. R. Fritsch on the “Relation of clinical appearance and radiographical findings in horses with navicular disease” and worked on all surgical areas in horses during her stay in Germany. In 1993 she returned to Turkey to her previous work at the Faculty and became assistant professor in 1995, associate Professor in 1998 and, full professor in 2004.

Between 2005 and 2008 she went back to the Veterinary Faculty of JLU in Giessen again and performed a residency program in the Small Animal Surgery Clinic on Diagnostic Imaging Techniques and was appreciated the title AssocDipl ECVDI LA (Associate Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging) in 2011. Within this framework she worked 2 months each in Ghent / Belgium and at VetSuisse in Bern / Switzerland on Medical Imaging.

Within this time period she published in total 71 papers, 6 papers in SCI (Science Citation Index) and 23 in SCI-exp (Science Citation Index-expanded) journals and 46 papers in national journals; she gave in total 147 presentations, 57 on international congresses, and 90 on national congresses. She supervised and participated a total of 12 research projects one of which was supported by TUBITAK. She contributed to 2 book chapters and prepared 3 students’ course notes. She gave several presentations as an invited speaker on different occasions and congresses in Germany. She organized, and participated as a lecturer, educator and / or translator at more than 30 CPE seminars and workshops, some of them in Germany.

She worked as a translation editor of the book “Atlas of Small Animal Ultrasonography” being translated to Turkish language and received a translation editor TEÇEP-award in 2014 which was appreciated by TUBA (Turkey Science Academy) and presented by the Minister for Science, Industry and Technology Mr. Fikri Isik on a ceremony in Ankara. Later in 2017, she was translation editor of the 4th edition of “Small Animal Surgery” edited by Theresa Fossum.

Her administrative tasks were Head of the Radiology Section between 1997 and 2005, Vice Dean between 2003 and 2005 and Head of the Surgery Department between 2011 and 2014. Between November 2011-2017 she was Vice Director of Mennan Pasinli Equine Vocational School. She actively worked in committees for International Relationships of the University and Faculty. She promoted the cooperation between Giessen JLU and BUU which ended up in a signed protocol in 1998. Under the umbrella of this cooperation many scientific studies, doctoral theses, joint congresses and exchanges of lecturers and students have been performed. Since 2012 she is the academic coordinator of Hesse province in Germany. In 2011 she was honored and awarded with the Wilhelm Pfeiffer Medal by the dean of Giessen JLU and in 2018 with the Justus-Liebig Medal by the president of JLU for her efforts and labor for the cooperation between BUU and Giessen JLU.

Deniz Seyrek-Intas is board member of the Turkish Veterinary Surgery Association since 1993 and president since 2011. Beside this, she is also member and board member from time to time of Bursa Turkish German Culture Association and SUBİTEB (Synthesis-International Science and Technology Association). At international level she is EAVDI and IVRA member (European Association of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging / International Veterinary Radiology Association) since 1997. She organized the joint IVRA and EAVDI congress in 2012 (16. IVRA-EVDI Meeting) in Bursa/Turkey with 39 participating countries.

She founded the Horseback Riding Students’ Community at BUU in 1996 and was mentor and advisor between 1996 and 2005. Since 2014 she is advisor of the International Veterinary Students’ Association of BUU (IVSA-UVÖT).

Deniz Seyrek-Intas is married with Kamil Seyrek-Intas, who is em. professor from BUU Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. She is mother of a daughter (space engineer) and a son (studying Architecture). She speaks excellent German (native) and English and moderate degree French.
