Department of Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology started its departmental studies within the body of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Near East University in the academic year 2011-2012. The Head of Department, Prof. Dr. K. Serdar DİKER, previously Head of Department of Microbiology of the Faculty of Veterinary of Ankara University, now has been appointed the Head of Department. The Department of Pathology of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Near East University has been founded with the support of the Head of Department, Prof. Dr. K. Serdar DİKER, and other academic staff; Prof. Dr. Müjgan İZGÜR, Prof. Dr. Hakan YARDIMCI, Prof. Dr. Ömer Memduh ESENDAL (Founding Dean of the NEU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine), Prof. Dr. Mehmet AKAN, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış SAREYYÜPOĞLU and Research Assistants. Between 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 Academic Year, Prof. Dr. Cengiz ÇETİN, Prof.Dr. Mihriban ÜLGEN, Prof. Dr. Ayşin ŞEN, Assoc.Prof. Esra BÜYÜKCANGAZ and Assoc.Prof. Serpil KAHYA DEMİRBİLEK were assigned as academic members from Uludag University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Microbiology with the teaching activity of the department. In the Fall Semester of 2015-2016 Academic Year, Prof. Dr. Kadir Semih GÜMÜŞSOY was assigned as academic member from Erciyes University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Microbiology with the teaching activity of the department. Currently, Prof.Dr. Ömer Memduh ESENDAL, Assist. Prof. Hüban GÖÇMEN and Res.Assist. Halit ŞÜKÜR and Res.Assist. Hazel TAMAKAN as Ph.D. students continue to give to lectures and practices.

The Department of Microbiology provides detailed information on: Ethology in infectious diseases, Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Symptomatology, Antimicrobial Resistance, Treatment and Protection Methods from diseases.

As part of its undergraduate program as Turkish and English, the Department of Microbiology facilitates the following theoretical and practical modules: Microbiology I, Microbiology II, Epidemiology, Immunology, Winged Animal Diseases and Mycology. As part of Microbiology Ph.D. program as Turkish and English based on Institute of Health Sciences, the Department of Microbiology facilitates the following theoretical and practical modules: Basic Microbiology, Veterinary Microbiology I and II, Veterinary Immunology, Veterinary Epidemiology, Immunoprophylaxis, Poultry Diseases, Mycology and Molecular Microbiology.
